Buying Guide: Drywall and Ceiling Supplies

Joint Compound and Tape
Joint compounds come in all-purpose and dust control formulas. The dust control version binds fine sanding residue into heavier particles that tend to fall to the floor instead of clouding the air. Paper joint tape reinforces joints, and flexible metal tape adds steel strength to corners.

Plaster, Texture and Primer
Structo-Lite basecoat plaster is a lightweight gypsum plaster that is mixed with water for walls and ceilings. QT Poly ceiling spray texture uses a polystyrene aggregate in fine, medium and coarse textures for a simulated acoustical ceiling finish. First Coat flat latex primer is used over interior gypsum board, wood and concrete surfaces.

Ceiling Grid and Waterproofing
Donn brand cross tees are used with SDX/SDXL ceiling suspension systems. The Durock waterproofing membrane band seals seams in waterproofing systems and has a 13-mil low-density polyethylene core. Measure your grid and match the part number on the old part before ordering.

USG Sheetrock offers joint compound, joint tape, basecoat plaster, ceiling spray texture, primer, Donn brand cross tees and the Durock waterproofing membrane band. Joint compounds are sold in several container sizes.

How do I choose the right joint compound or tape?

How do I pick ceiling texture or grid parts?
Ceiling spray texture comes in fine, medium and coarse textures, so choose the texture you want before ordering. For suspended ceilings, match the part number on your old cross tee and check your ceiling system manual before buying.
