Buying Guide: Matching Door Hardware to Your Door
Hydraulic Door Closers
The oil rubbed bronze aluminum and steel door closer is a Grade 1 model for interior commercial use, with a size 4 fixed spring tension. The aluminum and steel adjustable hydraulic door closer is also Grade 1. Check the size on your old closer before you order.
Cortland Locksets, Levers and Empire Knobs
The Cortland entry, passage, storeroom and classroom locksets are satin chrome and ANSI Grade 2. Cortland levers are light duty tubular grade 2 levers, and Empire ball knobs are grade 2 knobs in satin stainless steel. Both can be used for new construction or replacement, and the levers are for a standard 161 door prep, so check your door before you order.
Kickplates and Door Stops
The satin stainless steel kickplate is 8 in. H x 34 in. L and is .050 gauge, with matching finish mounting screws. Kick plates are typically the width of the door less 2 inches. The satin chrome floor door stop has a non-marring gray bumper that helps prevent damage to walls, and it includes a mounting screw post and plastic anchor.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Tell make?
Tell makes commercial door hardware, including hydraulic door closers, entry, passage, privacy, storeroom and classroom locksets, electronic keypad entry locks, single and double cylinder deadbolts, guarded latch bolts, strike plates, kickplates, push and pull plates, door stops, door holders, surface bolts and exit devices.
How do I choose the right size or type?
Start with the door thickness, such as 1-3/4 in., and whether the door is interior or exterior. Then choose the lock function, such as entry, passage, privacy or storeroom. For closers, check the grade and size on your old unit, and for kickplates, measure the door width. Match the part number when you can.
What grades do Tell locksets and closers come in?
The Cortland entry, passage, storeroom and classroom locksets are ANSI Grade 2, and the Cortland levers and Empire ball knobs are grade 2 too. The 600 Series closer and the aluminum and steel adjustable closer are Grade 1. Check the grade in the name of each item against the use your door needs.
