Buying Guide: Packard Replacement Parts
Hot Surface Igniters and Kits
Packard igniters are silicon nitride units sold as single igniters or as kits with a universal mounting bracket and hardware, mostly rated 120 V with a 24 V kit also offered. The IG0001 kit can also be a good upgrade for silicon carbide ignitors. Long leads and wire nuts are included with some single igniters.
Contactors
Packard contactors are definite purpose contactors with a 24 V coil. Options include single pole and double pole designs, with ratings such as 30 Amp and 40 Amp. Covered coils help protect against dust.
Transformers and Capacitor Tester
Packard standard transformers have a 24 V secondary and primary input ratings such as 120/208/240 V or 480 V, with VA ratings such as 40 VA, 50 VA and 75 VA. Packard also offers a digital capacitor tester for checking open or shorted capacitors.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Packard make?
Packard makes hot surface igniters and igniter kits, definite purpose contactors, standard transformers and a digital capacitor tester. The igniters use silicon nitride elements, mostly for 120 V gas-fired appliances.
How do I choose the right igniter, contactor or transformer?
Match the part number or size on your old part before ordering. Check the voltage, coil voltage, amp rating or VA rating against your appliance or equipment manual, and measure before you buy.
How do I pick the right contactor or transformer rating?
Choose a contactor whose pole count and amp rating match your circuit, such as single pole 30 Amp or double pole 40 Amp. For transformers, match the primary voltage and VA rating on your old part. Have a qualified technician install electrical parts.
