Buying Guide: Choosing a DMT Diamond Sharpener

Pocket and Folding Sharpeners
Credit card sized Dia-Sharp pocket sharpeners are easy to take anywhere, and one model comes in a color-coded carry case. Mini-Sharp folding sharpeners are lightweight and ultra portable, with a folding handle that protects the stone when not in use and a key chain swivel ring. Mini-Sharp models can be used dry or with water, so no oil is needed.

Double-Sided and Bench Stones
Diafold double-sided sharpeners combine two diamond stones in one compact unit, with two grits for a two-stage edge. The 6 in. Dia-Sharp and whetstone models offer a larger surface for knives and fine tools, and they include non-skid rubber feet or can be bench mounted.

Serrated Knife Sharpener
The Diafold serrated knife sharpener is made for serrated blades and is sold in a coarse grit in a 4 in. size. It removes only a minimal amount of material from the blade, which helps extend the life of your cutlery.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does DMT make?
DMT makes diamond sharpeners, including pocket-sized Dia-Sharp models, folding Mini-Sharp and Diafold sharpeners, double-sided stones, 6 in. whetstones and a serrated knife sharpener. Products come in several grits, from coarse to extra-fine.

How do I choose the right grit?
Choose a coarse grit to restore a dull or damaged edge, then move to a finer grit to refine it. Diamond grit is clearly marked on the side of the Dia-Sharp double-sided bench stone, so check the marking before you buy. For a serrated blade, use the sharpener made for serrated knives.

Can I sharpen with water or oil?
Mini-Sharp sharpeners can be used dry or with water, and no messy oils are needed. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the model you choose.
