Buying Guide: Grout, Caulk and Tile Waterproofing

Sanded and Non-Sanded Grout
Polyblend Plus sanded grout is a polymer-modified, cement-based grout that meets ANSI A118.7, and it comes in 7 lb and 25 lb sizes. White Dry non-sanded grout is made for glazed tile and polished marble that sanded grout can scratch, and it suits joints up to 1/8 inch wide. Non-sanded grout is sold in 5 lb and 10 lb sizes.

Siliconized Acrylic Tile Caulk
The tile caulk is used around sinks, tubs and showers, and where tile meets tile or another surface. It also adheres bath fixtures and loose tile, with a maximum joint width and depth of 1/4 inch. Do not use it in areas with constant water exposure or to install grab bars.

RedGard Waterproofing Membrane
RedGard is a ready-to-use elastomeric membrane for tile and stone on interior and exterior surfaces. It creates a continuous waterproof barrier and reduces crack transmission in tile and stone floors. It bonds to clean metal drains, PVC, stainless steel and ABS drain assemblies.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Custom Building Products make?

How do I choose between sanded and non-sanded grout?
Measure the joint width first. White Dry non-sanded grout is made for joints up to 1/8 inch and for glazed tile or polished marble that sanded grout can scratch. Check your tile manufacturer's instructions before choosing.

Can I use the tile caulk in a shower?
The caulk is meant for sinks, tubs and showers, but it should not be used in areas with constant water exposure. The Haystack caulk is for interior use only, and the joint should not exceed 1/4 inch wide or deep.
