Buying Guide: Choosing a Light Control

Photoelectric and Motion Light Controls
Photoelectric light controls, including dusk to dawn and swivel models, sense daylight and turn lights on at dusk and off at dawn. Certain motion activated light controls turn a light, radio or appliance on when movement is detected, and selected models have a 100 degree detection zone that reaches up to 25 feet away. Swivel models include a swivel base that lets you fine-tune the sensor position.

Night Lights, Puck Lights and Rope Lights
Plug-in LED night lights come in automatic and manual versions. Battery powered puck lights let you choose warm white at 3000K, bright white at 4000K or daylight at 5000K, and they suit cabinets, closets and pantries. Clear decorative rope light comes in 6 ft., 12 ft., 24 ft. and 48 ft. lengths, and additional kits can be connected for longer runs.

Wallplate Screws and Switch Guards
Wallplate screws are sold in a 10 pack, with a slotted oval head and nickel-plated finish in a No. 6 x 1/2 in. size. Clear plastic toggle switch guards come in a 2 pack. Match the size on your old part before ordering screws.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Amertac make?
Amertac offers photoelectric and motion activated light controls for indoor and outdoor lamps, plug-in LED night lights, LED puck and rope lights, wallplate screws and toggle switch guards.

How do I choose the right light control?
Pick a photoelectric control for lights that should run from dusk to dawn, or a motion activated control for lights that should come on when someone is nearby. Check the maximum load rating, such as Max 150 Watts on the bronze photoelectric model, and confirm the bulb type is supported by that model.

Do I need an electrician to install these?
Hardwired light controls connect to the electrical circuit, so have a qualified technician install them. Plug-in models only need an outlet, and battery puck lights need no wiring. Follow the manufacturer's instructions in every case.
