Buying Guide: Choosing a Wall Plate
Materials and Finishes
Amerelle wall plates are made from stamped steel, die-cast metal or wood. Stamped steel plates resist cracks, chips and discoloration over time, unlike standard plastic covers. Finishes include brushed brass, polished brass, aged bronze, matte black, brushed nickel, white, brown and unfinished beige.
Plate Types and Gang Counts
Plates are sold as toggle, decorator, duplex outlet, rocker and blank styles. Gang count refers to how many switches or outlets the plate covers, such as 1 gang, 2 gang or 3 gang. Count the switches and outlets in the box before you choose a plate.
Matching Your Old Plate
Match the size on your old plate or measure its height and width before ordering. Check that the plate type matches your switches and outlets. For wiring or device changes, have a qualified electrician do the work.
