Buying Guide: Brass Fittings and Copper Tubing
Brass Flare and Compression Parts
Brass flare nuts, forged flare nuts and inverted flare adapters come in sizes such as 5/16 in. flare and 1/4 in. flare, so match the flare size and style on the old part. The 5/16 in. compression brass cap is for use with copper, brass or plastic tubing, with a maximum working pressure of 400 PSI, so check that rating against your system.
Brass Pipe Fittings and Valves
Brass and red brass pipe fittings include elbows, tees, couplings and bushings, and brass valves include shut-off and flare styles. A red brass hex bushing has 3/4 in. MPT x 3/8 in. D FPT threads, so match the thread type and pipe size on the old part. The 45 degree brass street elbow is for water, oil, fuel and natural gas, but not for underground use.
Copper Type L Tubing
The 1/2 in. D by 20 ft. L copper tubing is a soft copper Type L coil for residential water, fire protection, solar, HVAC, snow melting and natural gas applications. It can be used underground and has a maximum working temperature of 250 deg. F. Measure the diameter and check the tubing type on the line you are replacing before you order.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does JMF make?
JMF offers brass flare, compression and pipe fittings, unions, valves, nuts, caps and adapters, plus soft copper Type L tubing. Some brass pipe fittings are for water, oil, fuel and natural gas applications, so check the use on each part before you buy.
How do I choose the right size or type of JMF fitting or tubing?
Start with the old part. Match the size, connection type (flare, compression, FPT or MPT) and angle, such as 45 degree or 90 degree. Measure the tube or pipe before you order, check any working pressure rating against your system, and for copper, check the tubing type on the line you are replacing.
Can JMF copper tubing be used underground?
The 1/2 in. D by 20 ft. L soft copper Type L coil can be used underground. The 45 degree brass street elbow is not for underground use, so check the use on the part you choose. Follow the manufacturer's instructions, and have a qualified technician install any gas or fuel piping.
